The Best One, Unix V/s Windows?

After having a web site, there are two major questions that arise in front of the user, first, which web hosting service to choose and second, which server can fulfill his/her requirement. Which operating server can be suitable for the website, a Windows server operating system or rather a Unix system?

One can drive windows servers on Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP, but when it comes to Unix servers then preferable choices are Linux or Open BSD. Certainly, both systems have there own merits and demerits.

If for a user stability and uptime of the site is valuable then preference should be given to Unix servers. Requirement of rebooting is quite frequent when it comes to windows, which can be considered as a drawback. But when it comes to simplicity of operating, Windows wins the race.

In contrast, Unix definitely wins in stability but it does not appear to be user-friendly, particularly when it comes to new comers. For stability too, user needs to pay extra. Talking about maintenance, and updation of software, Unix machines require their software to be updated on a very regular basis. To sum up one can say that Unix server operating systems are favored over windows because of their stability.

However in reality, there is not much difference between the two systems if they are installed correctly. But this is not any exact criterion to come to any conclusion rather it makes even more complicated for web masters to come to any decision. The final decision, which tells which system is more preferable, can be taken only after looking on other benefits as well as cost parameters.
