What is your favorite Thrill Ride of all time?

Anything counts. Roller coasters, carnival rides, or any type of amusment ride. My top 5 favorites would be…The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman at Universal Studios Orlando is my favorite of all time. My number 2 favorite thrill ride would have to be Exebition: Everest at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. Number 3 would have to be Vertical Veloicty at the Six Flags Theme Parks. This ride is also called the Wicked Twister at Cedar Point. My number 4 would have to be Dudley Do Right’s Rip Saw Falls also at Universal Studios Orlando. The 5th would have to be the Tower of Terror at Walt Disney World’s Disney Studios. As You Can tell, I’m a Disney/Universal kind of guy. I would love to hear your all time favorite. OR maybe your top 1-5. Thanks.

1. Tower of Terror: In Dreamworld (Coomera, Queensland, Australia). Basically it blasts you off a 100 mph and you go up 400 ft vertically (identical to the Superman ride in Six Flags Magic Mountain) The six ton passenger vehicle, called the ‘Escape Pod’, is electro-magnetically powered, accelerating its passengers rapidly to 100 mph (160 km/h) in seven seconds. The track then turns skyward, with the passengers pulling 4.5 G’s. The car climbs to almost 38 stories high.

Following the climb, there is a 6.5 second free-fall before the 90 degree turn is executed in reverse. The vehicle then hurtles into the station where it comes to a rapid stop.

There has been some controversy over whether Tower of Terror is a roller coaster, since the car goes up a tower only to fall back down again. Because of this, the ride is not found on many lists of the tallest and fastest roller coasters.

2. X: In Six Flags Magic Mountain X is a unique prototype design in which the seats can rotate forward or backward 360 degrees in a controlled spin. This is achieved by having four rails on the track: two of these are running rails while the other two are for spin control. The 2 rails that control the spin of the seats (the “X Rails”) move up and down relative to the track and spin the seats using a rack and pinion gear mechanism.

X’s lift-hill climbs 175-feet (53 m) into the sky with the ride’s tallest point above ground at 190-feet (58 m). The coaster’s opening drop of 215 feet (65.5 m) is sloped at 88.5 degrees and reaches a maximum speed of 76 mph (122 km/h). The 3,610-foot (1100 m) long layout features six inversions including a skydive, two “raven turns”, one backflip, and a twisting front flip.

Although the ride has received mostly rave reviews from enthusiasts and is a huge hit among the general public, X has had problems. Due to design flaws—particularly with the trains—the ride’s opening (originally scheduled for summer of 2001) was delayed until January of 2002. In June, the ride closed for several months in order to modify the trains. In August of 2002, the ride reopened and has been running smoothly ever since, except for a train valleying in the summer of 2005.

3. Giant Drop: In Dreamworld

The tallest freefall drop ride in the world (118 metres). It features a wait of usually 45 seconds at the top of the tower before the drop, although this can be altered by the operator, who will often wait until the Tower of Terror runs up and back down the shared support structure.

4. Manhattan Express: New York-New York.
The Roller Coaster at New York-New York, formerly known as Manhattan Express, Travels Through the property’s interior and exterior, and has cars painted to resemble a traditional Checker Cab; the coaster is 203 ft (62 m) tall, has a maximum drop of 144 ft (44 m), and reaches speeds up to 67 mph (108 km/h). The ride has recently undergone a variety of enhancements including the introduction of a magnetic braking system and new trains from Premier Rides.
