Two containers in the shape of right circular cylinders are equal in height. The radius of the larger container is 3 times the radius of the smaller container.

The volume of the larger container is how many times the volume of the smaller container?

a. 4
b. 6
c. 9
d. 27

answer is 9. Formula for cylinder volume is pi x rsq x length or height. This is precisely what the area of a circle is in geometry, so it extends logically that you could compute this as if it were a thick circle, since they are both the same height. If the assumed radius is 1, 1 squared is 1. Three times one is three and three squared is 9.
