How do you start a sweet potato plant?

My Mother used to grow one in water on the window self. Does anyone know how to do this? The plant would grow and cover the whole window sill and be so pretty. I want to do this for my grandchildren to see. Please let me know if anyone has done this and what I need to do….Thanks

Insert 3 or more tooth picks into the potato to sup-pend it off the bottom of the container of water. place it near window receiving filtered light, a north facing window does nicely. Watch it grow. Change water about once a week or so.
