Are “storm windows” unnecessary for a house with new vinyl windows?
I am looking at buying a house that has been recently renovated and has new vinyl windows. So, I need to know if I should take into consideration storm windows as a cost factor, or if that is unnecessary. The house is in a climate that can be very cold in winter and hot in summer. I don’t know the brand of the windows or if that matters.
ur question stated that u had “new vinyl windows”! all new windows made after 1995 by law of the US dept. of energy have to be thermal. storm windows will help if ur windows r not “Low-E” windows. where or if the sun shines on a window, the air between the windows, ( storm and thermal) will act as an insulator. same it true for the winter time.
bottom line storm windows will help with the light bill, control heavy rains and winds. if installed correctly i think u can get by with just the new windows, but Dont Know ur areas climate.
