My CD/DVD Drive is not working. What is the problem?
The Driver that is installed is Lite-On DVDRT SOHW-812R.
My OS is Win XP Home Addition service pack 3. The Drive worked fine until after a Windows update. The drive will not show in My Computer nor will it auto run CDs/DVDs. I’ve uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it via Device Manager. In the Device properties it says “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)”. I’ve run the trouble shooter but it told me to do what I all ready did.
I think the problem is with windows and not the drive itself. Any help please.
Other Details: Some times the driver will have different names. Windows will not work with other CD/DVD devices. (ie. USB DVD Drive). I’ve scanned my system with Shaw for Melwear and the search has come up clean. So I do not think this is because of a virus.
Open the Device Manager, and look for the designation, “CD-ROM”, click on the plus sign, next to it, it will then open a menu. Click on the device, and chose proprieties. You Can then remove the driver, you then reboot, and windows will install the proper drivers.
