Is it necessary for douglas fir covered sand before sealing?

I just purchased a very soft douglas fir 1 "x 4" cover material lumber yard and wondering if I need to sand with a fine grade sandpaper before applying a sealer, or if I can only apply the sealer to the wood as it is. A second question is whether I have to apply a patch after sealing the timber (and, if so, if I have to sand the wood sealed prior to applying the stain!).

Ok here's the deal, the softness of your deck is at the moment? If your soft enough for you to just make sure its clean and then seal it. As for the spots will be decided if you do the stain before sealing. If you spot may have to lightly sand before sealing. It depends on the stain.Oil based stains do not raise the grain of sand so it does not, stains water base to raise the grain of sand so it should. I do not think in my opinion that Douglas fir needs to be stained. Good luck

When You Think of Africa and its amazing wildlife that almost inevitably evoke images of the plains endless antelope dotted huddled together under the deceptively disinterested gaze of the 'king of the beasts. "

Then you may be surprised know that Namibia is also home to more than half the world population of Cape Fur Seals. A population of approximately 1 million of these intelligent creatures gentle grace of the cold Atlantic coast of this desert-dominated country.

Can be found almost anywhere along the coastline of 1,200 kilometers, but mainly in the colonies are dotted up and down the coast. The greatest of these is the famous Cape Cross seal colony, where December breading season can seen in populations of over 100,000!

Packed into the small beach filled with the cries of a noisy crowd of barking and mothers and lost puppies fighting the constant noise from the ocean to care, this makes for a memorable – if smelly – stop.

Females grow to 90 kg and have a life expectancy about 20 years, while males before breading pile on the pounds, growing to a maximum of 350 kg immense. Once on the ground the males do not eat often during a maximum of three months, as they use their stored energy reserves to defend his harem of women versus men dishonest impostors.

The energy required to survive this fast food requires up to 14% of their body weight per day in the period before the breeding season. This translates into an estimated total consumption 900,000 tons per year, which is 300,000 tons more than the fishing quota in Namibia throughout the year.

This inevitably puts man against annual slaughtering animals still remains a very controversial topic. Research indicates that although only half the diet consists of fish commercially seals viable and feeding has little or no effect on populations of bottom fish supply.

However, the Government of Namibia has granted this year quota of 86,000 seals to be killed, most of which are puppies and the rest of the bulls being killed by their genitals that are sold in the Far East as an aphrodisiac.

Last week my family and I got to the coast to spend some time learning more about these fascinating creatures. Our base was the resort town of Swakopmund, stay in the comfortable and cozy Sea Breeze Guest House, but the real basis for the label of vision is the port city of Walvis Bay, 30 km south of Swakopmund.

Besides being Namibia's main deepwater port, Walvis also offers a host of leisure activities based on boat catamarans to popular sea kayaking. We chose to travel with Coastal Mola Mola Safaris, one of the oldest operators and most reputable on the coast.

We leave the Yacht Club at nine of three and a half hour journey in search of seals and dolphins and would not be disappointed. Just were far side of the pier we saw an old friend Wally, our captain and very experienced guide for the day.

Sally jumped the seal of our launch aboard shiny new car with ease of an acrobat, and
the help of a bribe to let Wally sardine speak through their layers of waterproof skin, whiskers and fins powerful.

Our boat was soon joined by a school of dolphins Heavyside, indigenous to the west coast of Africa and he jumped and ran our boat, fighting for space under the bow. We were also lucky to see a group of bottlenose dolphins, which were also enough to put on a spectacular show of speed and athletic ability.

Pelicans flew over the boat, eager to catch a fish on the wing of Wally's outstretched hand, gulls and cormorants circled repeatedly blatant on the boat, waiting patiently for breakfast.

All this has been felt more power hungry as well, so right on the tail fresh oysters, appetizers and champagne were served, so for the perfect end to the perfect boat trip!
