can’t burn dvds with my computer even though i have a dvd-rom drive?

I can burn and play cds on my computer, but when it comes to dvd i can’t burn but i can play dvd movies and data. I have a DVD-ROM drive but when i put a dvd-r it won’t read it. Do you need to download software or something? Please help.

Tiffany is correct. DVD-ROM drivers can only read DVDs and CDs (hence the ROM in the name) You need a RW drive in order to burn anything.
