What does RC means? Radio control or Remote Control?

I have been browsing remote control cars website and I dunno if rc refers to radio or remote control? Anyway can anyone explain the difference?

Remote control ……as in RCU(Remote control unit)….in Radio Communication(RC)….radio control wud mean exercising control using radio frequencies….remote control would encompass radio as well as frequencies beyond radio spectrum like IR-infra red etc
