My car is making a "popping" sound and the rattle is, what is that?

Is to make the popping sound inside a tube at the rear of the car right in front of the muffler. This usually happens when I touch the gas pedal in the park, and sometimes even when idle to jump a bit too. The car is idling very high (about 1,100 rpm she began her first). Also when im going down the road bells too. There is a protector heat or exhaust manifold I have seen both. Any decent car experienced person give me an idea of what could be wrong? (Keep in mind I have a 1987 Honda Accord so its not perfect).

its probably the muffler has to be tight and / or replacement. the poping sounds counterproductive, which is a symptom of a converter catalytic wrong (to the right of the unit before the muffler) or a bad muffler.
