Marketing to your customers online – Las Vegas Style
I like going to Las Vegas for the weekend and blow off steam. I can run an online marketing group out from Chicago and Detroit, and catching a quick flight out there is not much. Every time I go out there that always amazed with the details of the experience Customer general. There are systems in place, however slight, that are designed to get the customer dollar in almost every corner.
It is no secret that the entire city is without money. It's the only reason for their existence. You feel like a pinball when caught in the experience of Las Vegas. I always come back a little smarter and apply new techniques to my business online and offline business. Let me illustrate some examples of how this can work for your business.
Overpasses
When you walk down the strip that is going to notice some things are different. You Can cross the street going from one casino to another. You will notice that the streets are wide and the cars do not slow down. When this becomes congested during the week can kill you if You Are not careful. Of course you can take the easy way and take the stairs mechanics that will take you right in the busy intersections. A quick tour of the bridge and you're in the casino safe and sound and ready to fly, even your hard earned loot.
Now if you look to your right you can see that the escalators are turned off. This means that if you leave the casino as likely to walk the equivalent of three flights of stairs back to the street. This is interesting to me for another reason. The escalators are turned all face one direction. All people are moved to the larger casinos and richer as the Wynn, Monte Carlo, Caesars Palace and the Venetian. You will see more of this around the MGM, The New York New York near the new Las Vegas. In almost every crosswalk I found I noticed that the escalators pointing to the old Vegas (Circus Circus, etc) went out. Thus to keep the money moving.
There are a lot of buildings in north of Circus Circus and there are plenty of small shops. The energy really get close to the Fashion Mall and the Wynn. Even beats Casino is for sale and is visible from the strip.
I think in ways that can make people go through my online maze and get to the meat of the sale. This is something that many companies fail to resume. You need to direct the flow of current and is damn hard to do with nothing but a picture and price.
Sales Copy on your face
Go into Circus Circus at 4 in the morning is a real eye opener. These are experienced professionals and have been around since the 1960s. I was checking in my room of an overnight flight from Phoenix and I realized that sort of deals fell from the sky. Everyone is selling something. Price was never mentioned, except in a few cases. You would see signs as well as "two for the price of 1" and "Remains of last time out – Get In Free," and were instantly eye catchers. Not a single Once I got the question of how much something was or what was the ticket price of an item.
You're dealing with an environment that deals with the satisfaction immediately. And with this mindset that almost no matter how much it actually costs nothing. I had to cut through the casino to get the hotel lobby. Note that I was very exhausted and yet this place was a kick at full volume with entertainment, music and people. When I looked up I saw a live show and all trapeze around me seemed very awake. It was a truly baffling. I was hungry and wanted too much to eat something. These signals around me affect me. Not once did I worry about prices. These simple sales pitches called me and told me.
Need and desire go hand in hand.
Beaten with too – but have limitations
Always give your customers more than they actually need. Vegas offers really over in almost everything they do. You get the treatment with the food they offer, the sample is placed and in his gratitude, but there are limits.
They run a tight ship. If you do not tell the reception that you are staying an extra night you closed the door of his room. I made the mistake of ordering multiple nights of travel from different sources, including Orbit, Travelocity and the main Circus Circus website. The reception could not reach an agreement for some reason, I wanted to change everything in a room every night of my stay. I had to go down to the table and say who I was and ask for one more night and get a new key. It sounds ridiculous I know and believe me when I say that I agree.
I went to use the tub hot water and found myself locked out of my room. I had to go to the reception in my bathing suit and stand there like an idiot in my towel to get a duplicate the key. They apologized and went in my room a little nervous with the whole ordeal.
I recommend that also runs a tight ship when it comes to their policies. Never let the steam from the roll of your business customers with its own agenda. When I created my company used to have a lot of emails from customers who were off-topic. At first I let it go but this later became a serious problem. There Were customers forget what they sent me and the ball dropped in the draft completely. I get emails unpleasant tone – "What have you done with my project?" They were angry with me while they were so lost in sending spam e-mail me, when in reality, I was waiting to get back to me with pictures or sales copy.
What is what I send?
I would get a lot of nonsense – all of the Gospel message, the Amber alerts, chain letters, get rich quick chain letters, poems, prayers, feel good messages and jokes. All the while waiting to wake up and take them seriously so that I could attend to my other clients.
It is important to meet the client, but you have to have limits on what you are willing to bear. Vegas will not play when it comes to incompetence customers. As you can see that did not follow their rules to a "T" and no check in the morning and get a new key. So I closed the door of my room. Some of you may think it is very nice, but that's how it works in Las Vegas. Do not waste time.
Get a system
Beauty Las Vegas is the study of all systems that are put in place. A good example is that you never see any clocks in the casinos. Time is not a problem. They want to be lost experience in the bar scenes, the casino and all that is happening. You never see the windows of the casinos, because they want you to lose track of time.
Everything has a system. There is beauty in chaos. You will notice that it is literally impossible to walk through a casino. You will have to turn and turn and walk between aisles and corridors are deliberately twisted around to distract your attention. It is something of a rarity I'm going to see a pattern of walking through a casino to get to the street. In general, it will stop and drop a few dollars more on a slot machine on the way to the door. The only people who walk straight through this maze are casino workers and police and so …. I, of course, (I'm not much of a player).
When Van Halen played left to spend night at the MGM was a total mob scene. We were all loose on the strip to go totally crazy. Traffic was sparse, so I decided to walk back to my suite. During all the way there were bars on the strip provided for you very drunk. "I have no idea where it came from these bars, but all were in line. They seemed like the kind car you see at the State Fair. Typically, these kids that sell food, but not these guys. If you want food that had to go in restaurants and sit down. These guys cubes were in the street selling beer for $ 4. I'm not talking about mini cups picturesque'm talking about the kind that sells chicken cubes in.
At every step there are ways for vendors to get their money. I saw a lot of bootleg T-shirts and gimmicky tourist things along the way back to my room. I was glad to see my room again and the door closed. At least no one trying to sell me something in my room right? Or not?
Internal Branding
When I turned on the TV was hypnotized. There was an internal television channel in my hotel room at Circus Circus. Clowns are doing sports, News and Weather. The jokes were bad, but the quality was good and was enthralled with it seriously. The hotel was broadcasting to customers as do many hotels, but this was different because it was clowns. I decided to leave it and study it.
They had a "Starskey and Hutch" type of promo clown police to show all restaurants in the casino. The jokes were terrible, but curiously I found this a bit nice. They were trying to find this clown who was hiding in a restaurant meat and bring him to justice. In this episode looked high and low for this clown to offend. Thus was the review of all the restaurants I've found what looked in. this pretty funny. I also liked how they repeated this every 15 minutes. I ended up ordering room service from one of these restaurants also after to see her so often. The food was actually better than what you get in a lot of local places. With all that competition must be good.
These clowns could have me sold anything. Seriously. I was that hooked on the idea.
I do not know who stole the Bible out of my room, but I did not have one. This made me feel little uncomfortable because I was camping in Sin City for four days and five nights. Or someone lost his head and robbed him with hopes to reform. Or the Gideons did not bother to come to Las Vegas and leave one behind. In any case, I realized that this trip served to me and what I thought it was real. An interesting adventure everywhere.
I took these lessons to my house and thought about how it might relate to my customer experience. I was very intrigued with how they might apply these lessons in my own online business by giving people what they wanted in controlled systems.
