When giving my 2 week notice can my employer make me take paid time off from time I have on the books?
I put in my two weeks notice and my employer said that I may have to take paid time off to eliminate some of the time I have built up on the books, I don’t want to take paid time I want to work for the next two weeks so that I can get a lump sum of money from my time on the books to help pay for my moving cost. Is there a law to protect me?
There is no law on the books regarding your paid leave. It all depends on what your company’s policy is. Get a copy of the policies or their hand book and look under resignation. If You Can take a lump sum at the time of separating, then You Don‘t have to use it or lose it. Most places won’t let you Take Your sick leave but paid leave usually gets paid in a lump sum.
