What is the type of wood?

Can anyone please tell me what is the type of wood used to make memory boxes usually found in bookstores cheap. It is very light and usually very pale in color. I know that is not balsa wood, but no one seems to know what it is. The products made from it are usually cheap imports from Far East.

Could not be created or palm wood. Many of these items are imported from the Far East where the palm wood is used for everything from housing to small items, as you suggest.
