What do You Think about Windows 7?

I’m a Junior in High School. Next year I’m planning on attending the local college to finish out my high school years. I need a new laptop considering that mine just sporadically shut off whenever it feels like it. I want a Windows. But I’m afraid that Windows 7 will be a dud. I know someone who had Windows Vista, and he had a lot of troubles with it. How does Windows 7 compare, and contrast to Windows Vista?
I plan on using it for basic school use. I’m enrolling in college in the fall, and I want it for when I have down time between classes. And so I don’t have to wait around for my parents and brother to get off the computer. I have a laptop now, but every time I type a paper or work on a project it shuts off by itself, and I lose all my progress. I just want something that will be reliable for me. That’s my most important concern is reliability. Since I will be taking college courses, chances are I will be typing a lot more papers and doing a lot more research than I do now.

Depends entirely on how you plan to use it.

There have already been pros and cons for Vista and even 7.

Windows 7 is much much faster and less resource-hogging, but still incompatible with a lot of XP and lower software (even with the XP Mode. I know, I’ve tried; gives weird glitches).

People like I actually still prefer Vista over 7. It works much better with older programs in my opinion.

But, if you’re ever in doubt, just stick with whatever you have, and just use VMware Workstation with an XP installation on it.
