Why do the Williams sisters and Sharapova make an such an annoying grunt?
In no other sport do people grunt like this. Imagine a baseball pitcher, batter, NBA player, football player, NHL player or golfer grunting. It’s sounds silly.
I’m a recreational tennis player and never even think about grunting. So is the strategy to distract opponets? It’s harder to get a feel for the shot when You Can‘t hear your opponent hit it. So this would give the grunters an advantage.
To get rhythm, distract opponents, physological offend, etc.
