What will help block chemicals from your face when working in a factory?

My boyfriend works in a metal manufacturing company and something in the air there really bothers his skin. It makes his face burn and feel red after work every day. I suggested face lotion with sunscreen in it but I’m not sure if that will help if it’s a chemical burn.

He’s looking to apprentice somewhere else soon, but for the mean time, a solution would be helpful. Any ideas if there’s any “chemical blocker” products out there?

Thanks

My guess would be something petrolatum based, or even just simple vaseline, it is after all a skin protectant. It may cause acne though.
