Agatha Christie game Malice under the Sun?

I am the end of the first part and I can not seem to get going. I've done everything. I have used and tutorials UHS advice and I still I can not find a way to get past the first part. Please Please help?

Act 1 – London, September 7th, 1940 ========================================= ======== It ============================== the time of World War II, and you (Hastings) and Poirot is sitting in the office of his flat in London during a blackout. Poirot decides to tell about a mystery just resolved, but received no publicity because the eyes and ears around the world gathered in Germany, Hitler and the Third Reich. Poirot wants to tell the story as if you were the one just now is the solution and you will direct their actions. There is a notebook on his desk – pick it up. There is a book on top of a cabinet to the right of his desk – take a close look-up – The Sorcerer's Apprentice by William Henry Nichols.
