How can you have only one clip from a movie?

Hey guys, I was going to make a montage of all U.S. wars of all movies war. The problem is that films can get no problem but when if I want a scene and upload it to Movie Maker, it would take ages and so much space. I know that a Mac can take some clips, but not exactly of their own, so do you know how to take only clips of some of the movies?
